COMMISSION MEETING.
Chairman Mook called the February 12,2008 meeting of the Planning and Zoning
Commission to order at 7 :00 p.m.
Roll Call.Chairman Mook asked for a roll call and the following Commissioners were
present:Mook,Hoifeldt,Steele,and Airhart.Absent:Dutcher,Schmidt.Others in
attendance:Shannon Lynch,Brad Deets,Ben Landhauser,Dennis Dowell and Don
Bailey.
Agenda Approval.Motion by Commissioner Airhart,seconded by Commissioner Steele,
to "Approve the Agenda for February 12,2008."Ayes:Steele,Mook,Airhart,and
Hoifeldt.Nays:None.Motion carried.
Approval of January 22,2008 Regular Meeting Minntes.Motion by Commissioner
Hoifeldt,seconded by Commissioner Airhart to "Adopt the January 22,2008 Regular
Meeting Minutes."Ayes:Hoifeldt,Mook,Airhart,and Steele.Nays:None.Motion
carried,
Open Forum.No one appeared to address the Commission during the Open Forum.
Motion to Approve the 2008 Waukee Comprehensive Plan.Director of Planning,Brad
Deets,gave a synopsis of the comprehensive plan.Amy Stout,representing Knapp
Properties,expressed her concern about current projects that may not fit in with the plan's
concept.Deets explained there is clause in the plan that relates to existing zoning and
proj ects and that the intention of the plan is not to override these.He further stated that the
preferred direction map indicates general locations for types of uses but they are not
necessarily specific to individual parcels.Mark Foust,32279 Ute Avenue,asked if a
nature center was part of the plan.Deets explained the plan does propose that the City try
to retain nature areas,although these may not be public areas.Bryant Welles,670 7th
Street,addressed the Commission with his concerns about the future of the land around his
property.Deets informed Mr.Welles that fanning of the land would continue for now and
when the issue of rezoning comes up,property owners would be given the opportunity lo
voice any concerns they have.Denny Dolmage,3273 Ashworth Road,asked about the
Alice's Road extension.Deets explained that once defined,the City will start contacting
property owners.The Commission expressed thanks to the City staff,Gould Evans,and
the advisory committee for all their time and hard work.They also expressed thanks to the
citizens of Waukee for their input.Motion by Commissioner Steele,seconded by
Commissioner Airhart to "Approve the 2008 Waukee Comprehensive Plan."Ayes:
Hoifeldt,Steele,Mook and Airhart.Nays:None.Motion canied.
Motion to Approve the 2008 Official Zoning Map.Director of Planning Brad Deets
explained the changes on the zoning map to the Commission.Motion by Commissioner
Hoifeldt,seconded by Commissioner Steele to "Approve the 2008 Official Zoning Map."
Ayes:Steele,Airhart,Mook,and Hoifeldt.Nays:None.Motion carried.
New Busiuess.Brad Deets stated that the City seems.to be bucking the trend and isn't
experiencing a real slowdown in housing.He also stated that 2007 had several commercial
projects in the planning process wid 2008 should see many of those projects come to
fiuition.

adjourn at 8:32 P.M.Ayes:Hoifeldt,Steele,Mook,and Airhart.Nays:None.Motion
carried,Meeting adjourned.
