The January 15,2008 Board of Adjustment meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m,by
Chairmau Oxenford.
Roll Call.The Chainnau asked for a roll call aud the following Board Members were present:
Oxenford,Colter Ellis,Lohstreter,Phillips.Absent:None.Others in attendance:Shannon
Lynch,Brad Deets,Dennis Dowell,Ben Laudhauser and Mike Watts.
Approve the January 15,2008 Agenda.Motion by Board Member Ellis,seconded by Board
Member Phillips,to "Approve the agenda for Jauuary 15,2008."Ayes:Oxenford,Ellis,
Lohstreter,Phillips.Nays:None.Motion carried.
Approve the November 14,2007 Board of Adjustment Minutes.Motion by Board Member
Colter,seconded by Board Member Ellis,to "Approve the November 14,2007 Board of
Adjustment Minutes."Ayes:Oxenford,Colter,Ellis,Lohstreter,Phillips.Nays:None.Motion
carried.
Election of Chairman and Vice Chairman for 2008.Motion by Board Member Colter,
seconded by Board Member Phillips,to "Approve Board Member Oxenford as 2008 Chairman."
Ayes:Oxenford,Colter,Ellis,Lohstreter,Phillips.Nays:None.Motion carried.
Motion by Board Member Oxenford,seconded by Board Member Colter to "Approve Board
Member Ellis as 2008 Vice Chairman."Ayes:Oxenford,Colter,Ellis,Lohstreter,Phillips.
Nays:None.Motion carried.
Approve the Application for Pizza Ranch,448 SE University Avenue -Signage Variance.
Chairman Oxenford asked if the City had received any correspondence,Director of Planning
Brad Deets said nothing had been received either for or against granting the variauce.City
Planner Ben Laudhauser provided background information on the property.Orville Vau Roekel,
construction consultaut for the Pizza Rauch,addressed the Board.Mr.Van Roekel said they
believe the 70 square feet of signage allowed by City code was not adequate because the building
sits 143 feet off of SE University Avenue and the cauopy of a neighboring business would make
it difficult for traffic to see the sign.Board Member Colter said he believed that the slower
speed of traffic traveling along SE University Avenue would ensure visibility.Board Member
Lohstreter pointed out that two other businesses in the same building each put up signs that meet
City code.Board Member Colter asked if any franchise requirements were being affected.Mr.
Vau Roekel said there were none.Mr.Deets explained that a monument sign was also au option
for the business if they wanted more visibility along SE University Avenue.Chairman Oxenford
reviewed the criteria to be met in order to gain approval for a variauce.Motion by Board
Member Ellis,seconded by Board Member Lohstreter,to "Approve the Application of Pizza
Rauch,448 SE University Avenue -Signage V ariance."Chairman Oxenford asked for a roll
call vote.Ayes:None.Nays:Oxenford,Colter,Ellis,Lohstreter,Phillips.Motion denied;
variauce not approved due to the applicant failing to meet the criteria for a variance including
hardship aud uniqueness.There was also concern that granting this variance would open the
board up to several other businesses interested in larger signs.

adjourn at 5 :45 p.m.Ayes:Oxenford,Colter,Ellis,Lohstreter,Phillips.Nays:None.Motion
