The October 16,2001 Board of Adjustments meeting was called to order at 5:33 p.m.by
Chairman Oxenford.
Roll Call.The Chairman asked for roll call vote and the following Board Members were
present:Oxenford,Ellis,Phillips,and Colter.Absent:Gatrel.
Council Representative present:None.
Agenda Approval.Motion by Ellis,second by Phillips to approve the agenda.
Chairman Oxenford asked for a roll call vote.Ayes:Ellis,Phillips,Colter,and
Oxenford.Nays:None.
Approval of the September 18,2001 Board of Adjustment Minutes.Motion by
Colter,second by Phillips to approve the September 18,200 1 Board of Adjustment
Minutes.Chairman Oxenford asked for a roll call vote.Ayes:Colter,Phillips,Ellis,
and Oxenford.Nays:None.
Approve the Variauce for Westwood Plaza.Dennis Hansen with Environmental
Design Group presented the monument sign variance for Westwood Plaza.The appellant
had presented a sign on the original site plan but decided to change the sign to better
fulfill their need.The basis for the Valiance was that they felt that the Right-of-way on
the north side was larger than on the south side of Highway 6.The City of Waukee staff
had proven the ROW to be equal on both sides of the highway.Denis Hansen felt the
location,orientation,and size was the only reasonable option that was available to them
to provide adequate visibility of the sign for a person traveling 50 mph.Chairman
Oxenford continued with the answers to the questions presented on the Board of
Adjustments Application.Motion by Colter,second by Ellis to "Approve the variance
for the monument sign location for Westwood Plaza."Chairman Oxenford asked for a
roll call vote.Ayes:None.Nays:Colter,Ellis,Phillips,and Oxenford.Variance
Denied.

Adjournment.Motion by Ellis,second by Phillips to adjourn at 6:18 p.m.The
