A roll call was taken as follows:Present:Volkmer,Thompson,Aldrich, Inman and Anderson.Absent:None recorded. No objections were received concerning the July 7,1983 minutes.Chairman Inman declared them approved as written. No one was present to voice any objections to Gordon Christianson's proposed variance at 125 Waukee Ave.He made a presentation to the Board concerning his proposed enclosed porch. The problem in this case was that this enclosed porch would encroach on the 10 foot separ- ation between his house .and gafage. The Board advised him that they would make a decision on this matter at a later date. N.William Porter of 650 Kaylin Drive was present to make a presentation concerning his proposed construction of a garage in his rear yard. City Attorney,Paul Huscher, had indicated that a garage must not be less than 30 feet distant from the rear lot line.Mr Porter had pro- posed to construct a garage 11 feet from his rear lot line. Bernard Thompson of 660 Kaylin Drive appeared before the Board to voice his objections to the proposed variance and,at the same time, presented a petition to the Board from 10 adjacent property owners. The text of this petition is as follows: We,the property owners within the 200'of 650 Kaylin Drive, are opposed to any change in the residential Waukee Municipal Building Code. The location of this proposed garage along with proposed entrance to this garage would detract from harmonious relationship of the rest of ~he garages in the neighborhoodo We feel that this could devalue our property. We are also opposed to operating a cer~mic and gift shop at 650 Kaylin Drive. A discussion ensued concerning this proposed vari-ance.TlieolJjecfions - related to two areas: 1.That the garage would face south and possibly destroy the continuity in the block. 2.That a ceramic shop might be operated out of the house or garage. Mr Porter indicated that he did not wish to operate a retail establishment selling ceramics, but that his wife,in conjunction with her hobby, might sell ceramics occasionally as a result of classes she conducts in Des Moines. The Board indicated that they would decide on this matter at a later date. Moved by Anderson, second by Thompson,to adjourn at 9 :53 p.m.Meeting Adjourned. ~rf'~Chairman I
