Held at the Waukee Public Library \-~~-~~~~~----~-----~---------------------------------------------------------- r ATTENDEES Bill Peard Marge Lause Renee Herr Chuck Underwood Tom Wilkerson Tom Tovrea Dan Gardner Linda Foltz Guests:Geoff Warmouth -Little Girls Softball Treas. Pastor Schlaefer -Songbird Park Caretaker------------------------------------------------------------------------------ DISCUSSION Geoff Warmouth gave us an update on the Little Girls Softball. We confirmed to him that we gave them permission to use the two diamonds in Centennial Park for the season this year. Pastor Schlaefer updated us on the status of Songbird Park.He also requested that we reappoint him as caretaker of the park. Chuck Underwood moved and Bill Peard seconded a motion to have the city council reappoint Pastor Schlaefer as caretaker of Songbird ~rk.Motion carried. We discussed the future of the Park and Recreation Committee. We need to elect officers and determine how many members we need since the Community Betterment Committee has now been combined with the Parks. Marge Lause moved and Renee Herr seconded a motion that we recommend to the City Council/Mayor that there be 9 voting members on the Park and Recreation Committee.Motion carried. Currently we have 8 voting members as Bill Peard is not considered a voting member. There is one additional person who is interested in serving,Bill Peard will verify this and let the mayor know. We also discussed what night we should be meeting.Currently we meet the same night as the Planning and Zoning Board. This means that we can't attend the P&Z meetings and also we do not usually have the mayor or city manager at our meetings as they need to be at the P&Z meetings.By changing our meeting night we can get better attendance of city staff and be more involved with the P&Z on new projects and the future of the parks and recreation facilities in our city. At this time we also felt the need to meet more than once per month. This will probably last only a couple of months. Renee Herr moved and Chuck Underwood seconded a motion that we meet on the first and third Thursday's of the month.Motion carried. This will start with the first meeting being February 5th. We had some discussion on what we feel should be the future direction of the Park and Recreation Committee. We will discuss this in depth at our next meeting. We will have a guest to help us with the discussion. Also at our next meeting we will have election of Park and Recreation Committee officers, and discussion of the co-ed softball league we are trying to get started in the city . .uck Underwood moved and Renee Herr seconded a motion to adjourn. Meeting was adjourned at 9:15 P.M .. Respectfully submitted by: Marge Lause Park &Recreation Committee Secretary \
