HomeMy WebLinkAbout1998-03-12-Parks and Recreation Committee MinutesWaukee Park &Recreation Cmte Minutes of March 12,1998 Meeting The following members were present:Marge Lause,Bill Peard,Tom Tovrea, Dan Gardner,Wayne Johnson and Brian Lorber.City Manager Kurt Rueckel was also present for this meeting. Kurt Rueckel presented several options for new bathrooms in Centennial Park. It would cost over $100,000 to replace the current facilities.We could remodel the old building for around $20,000.Marge Lause made a motion to renovate the current restroom building if the building is sound.Tom Tovrea seconded the motion.It passed. Tom Tovrea made a motion to get bids for a storage facility for Centennial Park.Dan Gardner seconded the motion.It passed. We discussed how to use the ball fields in Centennial Park.Wade Motsinger was at the meeting to represent the school.He stated that with 4 middle school,a freshman,jr varsity and varsity girls softball teams they need additional practice facilities.They would like to use the middle field from 3 to 5:30 while school is in session and from 8 to noon after the school year until the end of July.The school would be willing to help with the upkeep of the field.Brian Lorber stated that the Waukee Little Girls Softball would not need to use the fields in Centennial Park except for practice until next year.The Walnut Creek Little League and Girls Softball would like to use the fields for practice,they also would be willing to help get the fields into shape.The co-ed softball league would be using the larger field on the east which is not suitable for little league. Marge Lause moved that we allow the school to use the fields from 3 to 5:30 during the school year and 8 to noon after school is out and that it be booked for practices through the city for not more than 2 hours per team per week (2 hrs can be consecutive or broken out),also that the field could be booked by the Walnut Creek girls for games on Saturdays by booking through the city.The large field will be reserved for co-ed softball on Sunday afternoons and could be booked for practice the rest of the time. Brian Lorber seconded this motion.It passed. After this discussion the meeting was adjourned.Our next meeting will be on March 19,1998 at 7pm at City Hall.
