YMCA Update
The YMCA of Greater Des Moines and the Waukee Community
School have been having some joint planning meetings regarding
recreation programs and facilities in our community. The school
will nold some informational forums in the fall of 1997
concerning the 2nd phase of building at the new high school site.
A bond issue will be held in 1998 and in 1999 there will be an
addition to the building that will include more classrooms and
a recreational area to be used Dp the community and the school.
The City of Waukee pledges support for a joint recreational
facility of the school and the YMCA.At this time the City
could not support financially the construction of such a project.
At a later date it could possibly budget some funds for the
operation of the YMCA in our community.
