HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-05-28-Parks and Recreation Committee MinutesMinutes of WAUKEE PARKS &RECREATION COMMI·TTEE MEETING Tuesday,May 28,1996 7:00 PM Waukee Public Library PRESENT: Park Committee Members: Virginia Clark Anne McAtee Bill Spratt Bob Trissel Tom Wilkerson Monica Lihs,City Council Representative John Wesselmann,Public Works Director Terry McNamara,City Buildings and Grounds Youth Advisory Committee A youth advisory committee for long term planning being formed with members representing the city,the school the YMCA.Bill Spratt will represent the Park &Recreation Committee in this group. *is and *Shelter Houses in Centennial Park Fees and reservations for the shelter houses in Centennial Park were discussed.The Park &Rec Committee made these recom- mendations to be started January 1,1997: Reservations for the enclosed shelter can be made during the months Of January through March by Waukee residents.Persons from out-of-town must wait until April 1. A deposit of $30 and $30 for use will be charged for local groups.There is no charge for local non-profit groups or youth groups. A deposit of $60 and $60 for the use of the shelter for out- of-town groups. The deposit will be refunded if the building is left clean and bags of garbage are removed. It was recommended that the open shelters not be reserved and that they be on a "first come-first served"basis. *Grants Karmin Wilson was named as the chairperson of the grant writing c0mmittee. *Community Building Research on this by Terry McNamara The Centennial Park was funded with some Federal Grant A community building may be built on city park land,but building must also meet guidelines for outdoor recreational Money. such a uses. *Tree for Windfield Park Waste Management has donated a sugar maple tree for liindfield Park. Park &Rec Minutes Page 2 May 28,1996 *Restrooms at Centennial Park The restrooms in the center of the park are about 25 years old.Problems with plumbing,flooring,handicapped- accessibility need to be addressed.John said that the cost to replace or rebuild would not be much more than to repair.John is working on a REAP grant application to rebuild the bathrooms. Lisa Cooper of the area REAP organization would be able to provide help on this application. *Water Pressure Inadequate water pressure to flush the bathrooms in the park is another problem.Terry felt that a booster pump would provide enough pressure. Resignation On June 20 Bob Trissel sent a letter of resignation from the Park Committee to the mayor,John Wesselmann,Monica Lihs and the secretary of the Park Committee. * The next regular meeting of the Park Committee willbe Tuesday,June 25 at 7:00 PM at the Waukee Public Library.
