HomeMy WebLinkAbout1997-06-16-Parks and Recreation Committee MinutesWaukee Parks &Recreation Committee Meeting Tuesday,June 16,1997 7:00 P.M.Waukee Public Library Present:Park Committee.Members:Dan Gardiner,Linda Foltz Monica Lihs,City Council Representative John Wesselmann,Public Works Director Even though we did not have a quorum of park members,those present decided to meet anyway-as originally planned to finalize the plans for the softball tournament to be held at the park on July 4th. As of this date 4 teams have signed up to play in the tournament. A team fee of $100 was determined.The decision was made to go ahead and hold the games and run the concession stand.Linda,Dan and Monica were all going to make some phone calls to do some checking on food items and equipment for the concession stand and report back on June 24,at our regular park and rec.meeting. Tentatively,we will check into pizzas,or hamburger/hot dogs, popcorn,candy,bottled water and pop.Workers will be needed for the concession stand.The condition qf the concession stand and softball fields were discussed and what needed to be done prior to the games.Flyers will be posted at various places as well as notices in the local newspapers advertising the softball tournament. Those present were informed about Terry McNamara(a public works employee in the parks department)giving his notice to terminate employment from the City of Waukee.A status report was given about Virginia's illness (a park committee member).A brief overview was discussed about two future developments:Hawthorne Ridge and a conceptual plan of the turf farm.The business assn.will be giving funds toward a new water fountain at Triangle park.
