John Wesselmann,Public Works Director
Guest:Elizabeth DeWitt,Marty DeWitt
A letter from Terry McNamara was read to all park committee
members.An update was given on Virginia's condition.
PARK EQUIPMENT
John invited Elizabeth DeWitt and her parents to this meeting to
give some ideas and suggestions for possible future park equipment.
Several park equipment books were reviewed and equipment suggested.
John stated that the wood play equipment by the enclosed shelter
house needs to be removed in time also.The committee was fully
informed about the old or already removed equipment from the park.
SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT
An update on the softball tournament was given.The deadline to
sign-up to play will be extended.Pizza,popcorn,candy and pop was
decided to have at the concession stand.Candy will be purchased.
A popcorn popper has been reserved for rental.Coke was called for
pop supplies.pizzas were lined up if a deep freezer would be
available.pizza ovens and warmers would be provided.Other
supplies were mentioned that would be needed for that day.A
tentative work schedule for the concession stand was set forth.
Signs listing prices of items to be sold in the concession stand
will be made.
5 YEAR PLAN
A written request will be presented to the city council requesting
their approval of establishing a park board.An update on the
covered bridge that was placed at Centennial park and the work
still needing to be done was given.A long-range plan of
landscaping around the bridge and the rest of the park buildings
and grounds need to be addressed.John has met with Lisa Cooper to
discuss options for a reap grant.
HALLOWEEN HIKE
Morris Mason will be contacted to see if he would chair this event
again.A sub-committee needs to be formed.Many volunteers will
also be needed.
WINDFIELD PARK
The shelter still needs to be completed.John suggested contacting
an outside firm to finish the project.Concerns were expressed
pertaining to the looks of the park,it is in great need of mowing
and weeds trimmed.This will be addressed.
The next park meeting for the month of July will be Tuesday,July
8,1997 at the Waukee Public Library,to recap the softball
tournament and concession stand.There will no meeting on Tuesday,
July 22,1997.
