Present:Park Committee Members:Dan Gardiner,Linda Foltz,
Marge Lause
Monica Lihs,City Council Representative
Even though we did not have a quorum of park members,those present
decided to meet anyway as originally planned to recap the
concession stand and co-ed softball tournament held at the park on
July 4th.
The softball tournament had four teams participating.After cost of
the trophy and refunding the 2nd place team with their tournament
fee,the games generated a profit of $116.The rest of the income
and expenses were reviewed.All receipts and profits from the
tournament,plus any unused product to be used for future functions
will be turned in to city hall.The final tally on the concession
stand is yet to be determined due to the fact that some of the
unused product will be returned and be bill for only what was used,
i.e.coke products.The condition of the shelter and electricity
problems were discussed.The teams that played in the tournament
expressed an interest in playing in a co-ed fall softball league.
The park committee will look into pursuing this.Hopefully,the
number of teams will increase once the citizens are informed about
the fall co-ed softball league.A notice will be put in the Waukee
Taukee about starting a fall co-ed softball league.Individuals (to
form new teams)as well as established co-ed teams will be
encouraged to sign-up.
Briefly,Monica stated that Morris Mason was contacted about the
Halloween Hike.He will not chair the function but is willing to be
a part of it.At the next park meeting the secretary position needs
to be filled as well as setting up sub-committees consisting of
park committee members and a park committee member assigned to
chair the sub-committee for functions such as the halloween hike,
softball tournament,easter egg hunt,shelters/equipment to name a
few areas.Further discussion will held at the regular park
committee meeting on Tuesday,August 26,1997.Those present were
reminded that there will not be another park meeting this month.
