WAUKEE PARKS &RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING

*Little All American Football
Joe Follett will be coaching a Little All American
Football team and is looking for a practice area in Waukee,
The team members are 5th and 6th grade students from Waukee,Van
Meter,West Des Moines and Urbandale.They would practice from
5:30--7:00PM on Monday,Tuesday,Thursday and Friday,starting
September 3 through the 3rd weekend in October.The practice area
would need to be about 50 yd.by 50 yd.John and Terry thought
that they could use an area in Centennial Park,south of the west
baseball diamond.Joe will meet with John or Terry to check
the area.
6 Windfield Park
Ground preparation has been started for the shelter
house at Windfield Park and the cement could be put in this week.
The lumber has been ordered.The Jaycees might be contacted to
help build the shelter.The playground unit has been ordered
and should be delivered in late September or early October.
Community Betterment Committee/4th of July
Monica Lihs reported that the Community Betterment
Committee has been making plans forJuly 4th,1997.July 4th is
on a Friday and plans are being made for Friday and Saturday.
Activities include a parade and a band,gam~Q for ~hildr8n,a
water fight with two Fire Depts.,a dunk tank,horse shoe tournament,
volley ball tournament,a barbeque by the Pork or Beef Producers
and an ice cream social by the churches.

*WALNUT CREEK YMCA
Leighann Sullivan of the Walnut Creek YMCA met with
the Youth Advisory Committee and outlined youth programs that
are an expansion of the y program and that would include Waukee
youngsters.These include flag football,basketball,v,olleyball
and soccer.At this time these programs would be held at West
Des Moines sites.

Covered Bridge
T~e covered foot bridge that has been obtained by the
Jaycees from Marvin Terry (east of Waukee,along Highway 6)will
be placed across the creek at the southeast corner of Centennial
Park.Harold Bissell will move the bridge!however he's not sure
of the date since he is extremely busy moving houses.

*Halloween Hike
The Halloween Hike will be held on Friday and Saturday
nights,October 18 and 19.The last week-end in October had a
conflict with a home football game.Planning meetings for the
hike will be held in September and October.
The next regular meeting of the Park Committee will be
Tuesday,September 24 at 7:00 PM at the Waukee Public Library.
