John reported that rocks had been picked up last Saturday and that the area will be reseeded and fertilized this fall. *REstrooms in the Park : When repairs to existing structures are made, the law states that they be made handicapped accessible.John reported that to replace the dividers and doors in the restroom in the center of the park would cost about $1,000.That doesn't address the need for new plumbing and fixtures.Would it be best to replace the whole buildiNg ?Possibly consider a building that would include new bathrooms and a storage area for the mowing equipment. John reported that a 36 x 60 metal building would cost $18,000. *Parking Areas: The white posts that mark the parking areas ure rotting off and are in disrepair.Replacemenm made with treated wood, 6 x 6's,would be more durable .. *HALLOWEEN HIKE: A Halloween Hike in Centennial Park is being considered as an activity for the youngsters in Waukee.A lighted route would be planned with story-tellers and related Halloween stations along the path, ending at the enclosed shelter house with a treat, such as cider and cookies.community groups would be contacted to help provide the treats.Admission would be charged.A planning meeting is scheduled on Tuesday,October 3,at 7:00 PM at the Waukee Public LIbrary. *EQUIPMENT BUILDING: The current equipment building in the park is an eyesore and will be removed at the end of the season.A replacement Park &Rec Minutes Page 2 Sept.26,1995 mower is needed. If a good used mower is purchased, the savings could be applied toward a new building. The small building used as ~warming hut for ice skating needs to be replaced. *BRIDGES: The bridges in the park are constant target for vandalism. The bridges could be replaced with sturdier handrails.Consider the possibility of installing a large culvert at the bridge area and fill in dirt, making a walkway across the stream. FUTURE USE OF THE PARK: The plans developed for the park 25 years ago showed a stage and amphitheater in the south part, east of the stream. A stage might encourage more use of the park, possibly used for band concerts. Consider a Farmers Market in the park next summer. *A planning meeting for the Halloween Hike will be at the Waukee Public Library on Tuesday,October 3,at 7:00 PM. *The next regular meeting will be the fourth Tuesday of October, the 24th,at 7:00 PM at the Waukee Public Library.
