WAUKEE PARKS &RECREATIO~~OMMITTEE MEETING

Terry McNamara,City Buildings and Grounds
*Christmas Banners
Terry will place an order this week for 25 banners to
replace some of the old decorations that have been used in
previous years.
*Halloween Hike Recap
Attendance was about double that of last year.
More adults should be involved in the planning and the
activities along the trail.
The young volunteers (mostly 7th and 8th grade age)did a
good job,but at times need supervision.
A pUblicity committee should be active next year and get
advance pUblicity into the Des Moines Register Datebook,the
Wednesday issue of Around Town in the Register,the Dallas County
News,the Cable Channel and the TV reports of community events.
A Thank You to those who helped should be pUblished in the
November issue of the Waukee Taukee.
*Windfield Park
The trusses for the shelter house have been ordered and will
be delivered this week.The shingling will be done this fall.
The playground unit will be installed this fall.The
company from which we purchased it will send an installation
crew to do the work.There will be a fee for this work.
The tree planting will be done next spring.The area
for parking and the sidewalk will also be done in the spring.
*Grants
John Wesselmann is talking to Lisa Cooper about REAP
grants that we could apply for.
At the November the committee will present ideas for grants.
Our five year plan for our parks will be discussed.
*Covered Bridge
The covered bridge will be moved to the southeast corner
Centennial Park by November,l.of
Ice Skating
This winter an ice skating rink will be set up on the west
ball diiamond.
The next regular meeting of the Park Committee will be
Tuesday,November 25 at 7:00FM at the Waukee Public Library.
