WAUKEE PARKS &RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING

1996 Goals and Proijects
Bob Trissel had suggestions for 4 projects during the year.
Spring,April or May--A Saturday or two designated as a
concerted clean-up for the park areas.Promote this and involve
community groups and individuals.
Summer,July or August--A fund-raiser;include a band and
an ice cream social.If RAGBRAI nD¥te is in Ol.r area,plan for that.
Fall,October--Halloween Hike.Build on our first hike
held last October.
winter,December--Possibly work with the Wau-Tri-Kee in
bringing Santa.A Christmas hike in the park,the path marked
with luminaries,have some of the trees decorated.

Other project possibilities:
A Street Dance--It is thought that the JayCees are not
going to sponsor the dance this year.
A mixed Soft Ball League,using the fields at Centennial Park.
A broadened Summer Rec Program for the youngsters,with
activities held at the park.
*Public Meetings to discuss two park areas:
Windfield Park:
A public meeting will be held on January 11 at 7:00 PM
at the City Hall for members of the MaryAnne Estates and Windfield
to discuss what they want in the 4 acres that has been set aside
for a park,and how they can help.
That area will be seeded and fertilized in the spring.
westfield Park:
A pUblic meeting will be held on January 18 at 7:00 PM
at City Hall for residents of Westfield,Windsor West and Corene
Acres to discuss the development of the area at the south end
of 4th Street.
Flyers will be mailed to notify residents of the meetings.
Anne McAtee and Tom Wilkerson will chair these meetings.
There is $13,000 in the park equipment fund,$1,000 of
which is fromrenta1s.

*Park development is a project that could be funded
by a REAP Grant.
*The Lions Club is working toward raising money for a
needed Community Building for Waukee.Could the Park Committee
cooperate with the Lions on the project and locate the building
in Centennial Park?
Ice Skating Rink
The location of the rink would be in the infield of
west Little League field,an area approximatelY 90 x 90 feet.
The area would be enclosed with hay bales and lined with a
durable re-usable liner.The liner would cost about $1,500,
but could be used for 5 to 7 years.

*The next regular meeting will be held on the 4th Tuesday
of January,the 23rd,at 7:00 PM at the Waukee Public Library.
