HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-01-13-Utilities Committee MinutesThe January 13,1996 Waukee Utility Committee meeting was called to order at 8:05am. The following members were present:Ron Olson,Anne Pulliam,Russ Wiesley,Stan Lawson, Marsha Schmidt and Marge Schlaefer.Absent:Francis Forrett and Nick Gruber,Council Representative. Guests:Kurt Rueckel,City Administrator,Mayor Don Bailey and Mark Chew,Organic Technologies. The November 11,1995 minutes were approved. Selection of Chairperson -Our chairman Jeff Downing is now on the Waukee Development Committee so a motion was made by Olson and Pulliam to nominate Francis Forrett,As Francis is out of town his acceptance is unknown at this time. Contract Meter Reading -The committee felt the city should continue to read the meters and possibly hire a part-time person if there is more housing development.The motion to not accept bids was made by Pulliam and Olson.Motion carried. Gas Connection Fee -A motion was made by Wiesley and Lawson to request the city to establish a pay by noon or pay the $75.00 fee.If the workers are there to disconnect,the fee should still be charged even if the customer has check in hand.Motion by Lawson and Wiesley. Motion carried. Organic Technologies Proposal-Mark Chew for OTC proposed to charge a monthly fee of $0.65 per household to cover cost of disposal of tree limbs,branches and Christmas trees.Grass would still need a bag attached at a cost of approximately $0.75 per bag.A motion was made by Olson and Wiesley to leave the pick up as is and have homeowners purchase the bags.Motion carried,Mark Chew said he would be willing to put on a community class on compo sting. Solid Waste Fee -The monthly fee is now $7.00.Kurt Rueckel,City Administrator proposed going to $7.80.This would take effect in July ifpassed.The Committee will discuss possibly raising the rate to $8.00.The raise would help the city in their charge for membership in the Landfill on a per capita basis. Other Business -In discussing the possibility of hiring two new city employees,the committee recommends to the city not to hire anyone at this time.If growth wan-ants hiring additional workers it should looked at in July.
