HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-02-10-Utilities Committee MinutesWAUKEE UTILITY COMMITTEE MEETING FEBRUARY 10,1996 The following members were present:Ron Olson,Russ Wiesley,Stan Lawson,Marsha Schmidt, Marge Schlaefer and Council Representative Nick Gruber.Absent:Anne Pulliam and Francis Forret. Guests Present:Jeff Downing,Dale Elifritz,Velona Schrader of TCI and Kurt Rueckel,City Administrator. The January 13,1996 minutes were approved. TCI CABLE -Downing Development situation:In regard to Downing Development's Sunrise Meadows Development project's problem with TCI getting cable to his subdivision.Dale Elifritz of TCI said he couldn't get the necessary paper work done in time and thought there would be no charge to them to lay the cable.Downing Development had been working with TCI since last April and Jeff Downing couldn't understand why an agreement wasn't written before March.After discussion the committee wanted to know what TCI can do to resolve the problem now.Elifritz also felt there may have been a lack of communication and will work toward solving the problem. QUALITY OF RECEPTION:The local or lower channels reception is not as good.TCI said part of the problem could be weather,cracks in the cable,etc. SERVICE CALLS:TCl's Red Oak office will answer calls 24 hours a day 7 days a week. CURRENT CHANNELS:TCI is channel bound and can not add more channels because of current electronic capabilities. POSTING FEES FOR DISCONNECT NOTICES:In an average month there are 120 late utility bill payments and 40 disconnect notices posted.Wiesley moved to present the posting fee for delinquent notices resolution to the City Council as is.Lawson seconded.Motion passed.The $75.00 reconnect fee the committee felt should be put in a Special Fund to help those really in need to help pay their utility bills. LIMITING OTHER GAS UTILITIES WITHIN THE CITY OF WAUKEE:The committee felt it is in the best interest of Waukee not to allow other connnunities such as Clive to lay their gas lines crossing our boundaries.This will give Waukee the opportunity to provide the gas service to these communities.Wiesley made a motion and Lawson seconded to have City Attorney Paul Huscher write a resolution to limit other gas utilities from corning into Waukee's city limits. Motion passed. RAISING SOLID WASTE AND RECYCLING FEES TO PAY FOR PER CAPITA FEES: Wiesley made a motion and Schmidt seconded that a recommendation be made to the City Council to raise the fee from $7.00 to $8.00 and this increase would cover the per capita fees and generate extra income toward future rate raises.The increase wouldn't take effect until July 1st. Motion carried. The meeting was adjourned at 9:40pm. Marge Schlaefer,Secretary
