PROPOSAL TO LOWER lVlINTIVlUMUTlLITy BlLLS
Kurt explained the report, prepared by Greg Fetterman. The Committee discussed the options
and felt that because the City had plans for an overall rate study around September, that a change
was not necessary at this time.Motion by Weisley, second by Olson to table until the rate study is
done.
UTILITY PAYMENT DROP-OFF -74TH STREET HY-VEE
Kurt informed the Committee that Hy-Vee was offering to Have their 74th Street store be a drop-
off point for the payment of the City's Utility Bills. The Committee felt that there would be so
little use of this service that it would be not worth the effort, and the extra step.
The Utility Committee discussed locking in rates for next winter. It had been recommended by
Bill Huston to lac in rates at approximately $2.40,and not go pat May 1.The Committee felt that
rates might go lower, because so may utility company's storage of gas is still plentiful. The
Committee requested Bill Huston to be at the meeting to talk about capacity and locking rates,
our future capacity, and options for increasing that capacity, their fees, etc.
Kurt was requested to research if the Council had taken any action on increasing the City's
storage capacity.
The Utility Committee asked for the Council's reasoning why the City Council chose not to go
out for bids for the solid waste collection.Kurt read the letter from Waste Management stating
that their would keep their rates the same for an additional year. This letter was received after
the Utility Committee made their recommendation to go out for bids. The Utility Committee also
asked staff to look into the cost of providing solid waste collection themselves.
