The June 3rd,1997 Waukee Utility Committee meeting was called to order at 7:05pm by
Chairman Francis Forret.
The following members were present:Marsha Schmidt,Francis Forret,Ron Olson,Russ Wiesley,
Marge Schlaefer,Ann Pulliam and Stan Lawson.Absent:Nick Gruber.
The May 6th minutes were approved as read.
Contract Meter Reading Bids -John Wessehnann,Public Works Director,received 2 bids for the
contract meter reading.John currently is reviewing the bids and checking on the time span each
company will require month for reading ofthe meters.The following bids were received:
Van Wert Enterprises -$0.45/meter
Burmex -$0.44 per meter
There will be a penalty for the company reading the meters if they do not stay within the decided
time limit.There are 2,900 meters in the city of Waukee =$15,300/year.
John recommends going with the company with the lowest bid as long as they can meet the city's
requirements.Burmex involved with the drug and alcohol testing requirement in place that is
required by the City.
Motion by Lawson,seconded by Wielsey,to recommend to the Council to except the low bid if
they meet the city's standards for the contract meter reading.Motion carried.
John Wesselmann reported that the Council has passed the gas rebate program.
Solid Waste Fee Increase.Kurt Rueckel gave the committee members a written report and
explained the need for a future rate increase with the population growth worked into the figures.
Motion by Wiesley,seconded by Lawson,to increase the garbage fee to $9.25 per month and
charging apartments and the mobile home park NDCRPC fees of $0.80.Motion carried.
Kurt briefly explained the development that will be taking place in the city in the very near future.
Ann Pulliam would like the city to contact US West regarding calls to surrounding communities
changed from long distance to local.
Motion to adjourn by Wiesley,seconded by Pulliam to adjourn at 8:15pm.
