HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-08-10-Utilities Committee MinutesWAUKEE UTILITY COMMITTEE MINUTES AUGUST 10,1996 The August 10,1996 Waukee Utility meeting was cal1ed to order at 8:05am by Chairman Francis Ferret. The fol1owing members were present:Francis Forret,Stan Lawson,Anne Pulliam,Ron Olson and Marge Schlaefer.Absent:Council Representative Nick Gruber,Russ Wiesley and Marsha Schmidt.Guests:Kurt Rueckel,City Administrator. Budget Summary:A new Treasurer for the city has been hired,David Angileri.He wil1 be starting August 26th.He will be redoing the format of Budget Summaries which should make it easier to read and understand. Energy Efficiency Program:The Committee discussed the possibility of rebates for those who switch from electric to gas or who replace their furnaces with more efficient ones. North Dallas County Landfill:The North Dal1as County Landfil1 will be doubling their tipping fees starting October 1st.Waste Management's contract with Waukee allows them to raise their fees by $1.47 a month.This would cost the average homeowners $17.64 per year.The rate being charged now is $4.41 per month.If this increase is put into effect it will cost the city an additional $18,500.00 per year.Kurt wil1 cal1 Waste Management to find out how much waste in poundage goes to the landfill from Waukee.With this information he may be able to negotiate a lower rate mcrease. Construction Water Policy -Charges:Stan Lawson made a motion with Anne Pul1iam seconding to continue to require contractors to have a meter before any water is used.The City has had a few problems but Kurt feels they have been handled sufficiently for now.Motion carried. NSF Policy:More information is needed from Brenton Bank on what they charge the City for NSF checks.Leave policy on delinquent customers as is for now. Other Business:A motion made by Ron Olson and seconded by Stan Lawson to recommend to the Council not to charge for recycling bins for new residents or for replacement bins.The Committee feels the reasons for this recommendation are as fol1ows: 1.The City was never charged to get the bins as grant money was used. 2 The City has an approximate 3 year supply left. 3.It is not good Public Relations to charge new residents $8.00 for the bins.
