NOVEMBER 9,1996
The November 9,1996 Waukee Utility meeting was called to order at 8:05 A.M.
The following members were present:Francis Forret,Stan Lawson,Ron Olson,Marge Schlaefer
and Nick Gruber,Council Representative.Absent:Russ Wiesley,Marsha Schmidt,and Anne
Pulliam.Guest:Kurt Rueckel,City Administrator.
The September 14,1996 minutes were approved and read.
On the subject of solid waste and recycling pickup:Francis Forret gave the committee members
a copy of Forest City's new residential garbage pickup system.Each household will be charged
a base of $3.00 per month for garbage and $1.75 for recycling.They are required to buy special
bags for garbage.A 33 gallon bag will be sold in packets of 10 for $12.50 or 15 gallon bags sold
in packets of 10 for $10.00.This would help residents to recycle more plus lower the cost per
month for those who have little garbage to dispose of each week.
Next month we will ask John Wesselmann and Bob Herrick to answer more questions on testing
of water mains.
The committee passed a motion to recommend to the City Council to charge snow birds the $.65
per capita fee for landfill fees too.
Discussion on a possible future wastewater treatment plant.The City can't afford it at the
present time as it would have to buy land.The purchase ofland should have been done years
ago.
Kurt asked the committee to think about the budget for next year and to make recommendations
if any.
