November 11,1995
Jeff Downing called the meeting to order at 8:00 a.m.
Present:Ann Pulliam,Jim Thompson,Russ Wiesley,Jeff Downing
Marge Schlaefer was excused.
Guests:John Wessehnann
The minutes of October 14,1995,meeting were approved (Thompson,Pulliam).
CONTRACT METER READlNG:The single bid received was rejected.It was requested that
the city look at ways to fund part-time help for meter reading or re-bid the contract (Pulliam,
Wiesley).
RECYCLlNG AT MOBILE HOME PARK:Ordinances 213A and 213B were approved by the
committee (Wiesley,Pulliam).The committee felt that it was most important not to lose sight of
our goal -efficient collection of garbage and recycling within our city.The manner in which that
goal is accomplished can be flexible,as long as all parties are treated equally.Thompson
requested that the discount rate for senior citizens be re-published and he requested that a
comprehensive information list be provided to new residents when they request city services
listing such things as phone numbers,city services,collection policies,etc.
LICENSlNG OF WASTE HAULERS:The committee approved Ordinance 213 (Thompson,
Pulliam).All waste haulers should be treated equally.
OTHER BUSlNESS:The committee passed a motion requesting the city to direct TCI
Cablevision to allow automatic withdrawal directly from a bank account for the payment of TCI
bills (Thompson,Wiesley).
There was a citizen request to change over the water meters of the annexed area on
Alice's Road from Des Moines Waterworks meters to Wankee meters.This would include some
people who volnntarily annexed in to Clive.It was also requested that the water line be extended
approximately one-half mile to provide service to 27 additional families plus Alice's business.
J ohn Wesselmann is to look in to the feasibility of this.
MEETlNG TIMES AND DAYS:Several members of the conunittee have expressed a desire to
change the meeting date.This will be taken up at the December meeting.
IMP ACT FEES:Chairman Downing passed out an information sheet regarding impact fees in
other suburbs.TIns item will be taken up at the next meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 a.m.
