RESOLUTION 14-113
RESOLUTION NAMING THE INTERCHANGE/STREET FROM INTERSTATE 80
NORTH TO UNIVERSITY AVENUE
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE,IOWA
WHEREAS,the City of Waukee is investing over $45 million in the construction of an
interchange on Interstate 80 and a future six-lane roadway;AND
WHEREAS,the area adjacent to the roadway will serve as a major business corridor for
Waukee with the potential for increasing the City's commercial tax base,offering new personal
and professional services to residents,providing career opportunities to residents;AND
WHEREAS,the City of Waukee created a master plan and brand for the undeveloped area along
the corridor that will speed the rate of business development and add to Waukee's quality oflife;
AND
WHEREAS,the Cities of Waukee and West Des Moines are committed to having a single name
for the new interchange and have identified a name that reflects the area history and meets the
needs of both communities;AND
WHEREAS,Waukee and West Des Moines agree to name the new roadway "Grand Prairie
Parkway"which derives its origins from early settlers and explorers of the area who in 1718
named the large swath of land that covered the middle one-third of Iowa,including this area,
"Grandes Prairies";AND
WHEREAS,the name of "Grand Prairie Parkway"will extend the entire business corridor from
Interstate 80 to University Avenue in Waukee,and continue south through West Des Moines;
AND
NOW BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Waukee does
hereby name the interchange/street "Grand Prairie Parkway"from Interstate 80 north to
University Avenue effective on November 15,2014.
Passed by the City Council of the City of Waukee,Iowa,and approved this the 5th day of May,
2014.
