HomeMy WebLinkAbout2020-04-20-J01G Street Closing_4th of JulyAGENDA ITEM: CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA CITY COUNCIL MEETING COMMUNICATION MEETING DATE: April 20, 2020 AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of a resolution approving the temporary closing of certain public streets for the Waukee 4th of July Celebration FORMAT:Consent Agenda SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The temporary street closings are related to the parade route and fireworks display that are planned for the 4th of July celebration. Note that the parade street closing begins at 10:00 a.m. this year; in years past, the street closing began at 2:00 p.m. FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT: STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Iowa Code §364.12(2)(a) states that public ways and grounds may be temporarily closed by resolution. RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution. ATTACHMENTS: I. Proposed Resolution PREPARED BY:Becky Schuett REVIEWED BY: J1G THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA RESOLUTION 2020- APPROVING THE TEMPORARY CLOSING OF CERTAIN PUBLIC STREETS FOR THE WAUKEE 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA WHEREAS, the Waukee Parks and Recreation Department requests the following temporary closures of specific public streets for activities associated with the 4th of July Celebration: Parade: The temporary closing of Locust Street from 5th Street west to 7th Street; 7th Street from Locust Street north to Ashworth Drive; Ashworth Drive from 7th Street south and east to 4th Street; 4th Street from Ashworth Drive south to Northview Drive; Northview Drive from 4th Street east to S. Warrior Lane; S. Warrior Lane from Northview Drive south to SE Park Road where the parade participants will disburse, beginning 10:00 a.m. and ending when the parade is concluded on Saturday, July 4, 2020. Fireworks Display: The temporary closing of SE University Avenue from S. Warrior Lane east to SE Waddell Way and S. Warrior Lane from SE University Avenue north to SE Park Road beginning 8:30 p.m. and ending 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, 2020; with a “rain date” temporary closing of the same said streets at the same said times on Sunday, July 5, 2020; AND, WHEREAS, pursuant to §364.12(2)(a), public ways and grounds may be temporarily closed by resolution; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this 20th day of April, 2020, that it hereby approves the temporary closing of certain public streets for the Waukee 4th of July Celebration. ____________________________ Courtney Clarke, Mayor Attest: ___________________________________ Rebecca D.
