SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The Warrior Lane Joint Utility Trench Project
consists of installing approximately 3250 linear feet of (10) 2” conduits and 2 (4”) conduits using
a combination of trench and trenchless construction methods along Warrior Lane from University
Avenue to Marshall Drive. Also included is installation of hand holes, remove and replace
sidewalks, traffic control, erosion control, and site restoration.
The City received bids on September 15, 2020 with seven contractors submitting bids. TD&I
Cable Maintenance, Inc. submitted the low bid in the amount of $389,134.25, which is
approximately 48% below the engineer’s estimate of $747,858.75.
FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: $389,134.25
COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT:
STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Staff recommends awarding the project to TD&I Cable
Maintenance, Inc. in the amount of $389,134.25.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution.

RESOLUTION MAKING AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION
CONTRACT FOR THE WARRIOR LANE JOINT UTILITY
TRENCH
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, STATE
OF IOWA:
Section 1.That the following bid for the construction of certain public improvements
described in general as the Warrior Lane Joint Utility Trench, described in the plans and
specifications heretofore adopted by this Council on September 21, 2020, be and is hereby
accepted, the same being the lowest responsive, responsible bid received for such work, as follows:
Contractor: TD&I Cable Maintenance, Inc. of Lakeland, MN
Amount of bid: $389,134.25
Portion of project: All construction work
Section 2.That the Mayor and Clerk are hereby directed to execute the contract with the
contractor for the construction of the public improvements, such contract not to be binding on the
City until approved by this Council.
PASSED AND APPROVED this 21st day of September, 2020.

Warrior Lane Joint Utility Trench
Dear Mr. Koester:
Seven (7) bids were received on September 15, 2020 for the above referenced project. We propose
that the City of Waukee consider the bids and award the contract to TD&I Cable Maintenance, Inc on
the basis of their lowest responsive, responsible bid of Three Hundred Eighty-Nine Thousand One
Hundred Thirty-Four Dollars and 25/100 ($389,134.25). This award is subject to submittal of acceptable
bonds and insurance.
Once approval from City Council is obtained, please contact our office and we will proceed with
finalizing the agreement, bonds, and insurance.
We look forward to continuing to work with you on the Warrior Lane Improvements. Please contact our
office if you have any questions or comments regarding the above project.
