HomeMy WebLinkAbout2020-11-02-I03B SE Laurel St Extension at Alice's Rd_Award ContractAGENDA ITEM: CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA CITY COUNCIL MEETING COMMUNICATION MEETING DATE: September 21, 2020 AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of a resolution awarding contract [SE Laurel Street Extension at Alice’s Road Project] FORMAT:Resolution SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The SE Laurel Street Extension at Alice’s Road Project includes the construction of SE Laurel Street Extension west of SE Alice’s Road including all labor, materials and equipment necessary for approximately 1,460 linear feet of 8- inch water main, 1,070 linear feet of 8-inch to 36-inch storm sewer, 950 linear feet of 8-inch sanitary sewer, 4,800 square yards of 6-inch and 8-inch PCC pavement, earthwork, subgrade preparation, manholes, intakes, rip-rap, surface restoration and miscellaneous associated work, including cleanup. The City received bids on October 28, 2020 with eleven contractors submitting bids. Corell Contractor, Inc. of West Des Moines, Iowa submitted the low bid in the amount of $658,186.00, which is approximately 20% below the engineer’s estimate of $822,000.00. FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: $658,186.00 COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT: STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Staff recommends awarding the project to Corell Contractor, Inc. in the amount of $658,186.00. Bid Tab PREPARED BY:Beth Richardson REVIEWED BY: Rudy Koester RK I3B RESOLUTION 2020- RESOLUTION MAKING AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT FOR THE SE LAUREL STREET EXTENSION AT ALICE'S ROAD BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, STATE OF IOWA: Section 1.That the following bid for the construction of certain public improvements described in general as the SE Laurel Street Extension at Alice's Road, described in the plans and specifications heretofore adopted by this Council on November 2, 2020, be and is hereby accepted, the same being the lowest responsive, responsible bid received for such work, as follows: Contractor: Corell Contractor, Inc.,, of West Des Moines, IA Amount of bid: $658,186.00 Portion of project: All construction work Section 2.That the Mayor and Clerk are hereby directed to execute the contract with the contractor for the construction of the public improvements, such contract not to be binding on the City until approved by this Council.
