HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-07-08-J02B Transite Water Main Replacement Phase 1_Reject BidsAGENDA ITEM: CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA CITY COUNCIL MEETING COMMUNICATION MEETING DATE: July 8, 2019 AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of a resolution rejecting bids [Transite Water Main Replacement Phase 1 Project] FORMAT:Resolution SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The City received bids on Wednesday, June 26, 2019. The low bid was submitted by Synergy Contracting, LLC of Bondurant, Iowa in the amount of $736,638.00. The engineer’s estimate of cost for the construction of the project was $560,000.00. The wet spring conditions and strong economy have given most contractors a significant backlog of work, making many unavailable to bid. This project is not considered critical from a timing perspective therefore revaluating the scope of the project, extending the completion date and rebidding in the fall would most likely improve the quality of the bids. Based on the bids received, Veenstra & Kimm, Inc recommend the City reject all bids, and rebid the project at a later date. Letter of Recommendation and Bid Tab PREPARED BY: Beth Richardson REVIEWED BY: Rudy Koester PUBLIC NOTICE INFORMATION – NAME OF PUBLICATION: DATE OF PUBLICATION: J2B - 0 - RESOLUTION 19- RESOLUTION REJECTING BIDS FOR THE TRANSITE WATER MAIN REPLACEMENT - PHASE 1 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, STATE OF IOWA: WHEREAS, on the 13th day of June, 2019, plans, specifications, form of contract and estimate of cost were filed with the Clerk for the construction of certain public improvements described in general as the Transite Water Main Replacement - Phase 1; WHEREAS, on June 3, 2019, the Council determined that it was necessary and advisable to construct certain public improvements described in general as the Transite Water Main Replacement - Phase 1; WHEREAS, notice of hearing on plans, specifications, form of contract and estimate of cost for the public improvements was published as required by law; WHEREAS, on June 26, 2019, the date fixed as the date for receiving bids, all bids submitted exceeded the engineer’s estimate of cost; and WHEREAS, the Council has determined it is in the best interest of the City to reject the bids. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, STATE OF IOWA: Section 1. That all bids received for the construction of certain public improvements described in general as construction of the Transite Water Main Replacement - Phase 1, be and is hereby rejected.
