HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018-02-20-J01G Recreation Lead_Job Description, Pay GradeAGENDA ITEM: CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA CITY COUNCIL MEETING COMMUNICATION MEETING DATE: February 20, 2018 AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of a resolution approving job description and pay grade for Recreation Lead FORMAT:Resolution SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: This is a newly created part-time position that will assist the Parks & Recreation Department in supervising evening and weekend adult and youth sports leagues, programs, and activities. The Recreation Lead will serve patrons, parents, and coaches to ensure their needs are met. The individual in this position will be working on an as-needed basis. FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT: STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: The City Administrator and Human Resource Director recommend approval of the creation of a new position and job description for the position of a part-time Recreation Lead. Job Description – Part-time Recreation Lead PREPARED BY:Patricia Brown Holden REVIEWED BY: J1G THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA RESOLUTION 18- APPROVING JOB DESCRIPTION AND PAY GRADE [RECREATION LEAD, PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT] IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Dallas County, State of Iowa, is a duly organized Municipal Organization; AND, WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Director proposes the creation of a non-represented, part- time as needed Recreation Lead position; AND, WHEREAS, the pay grade for the position shall be Grade N31; AND, WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Director and Human Resource Director recommend establishing the position and approving the job description and pay grade. Lyon Recreation Attendant Page 1 Council Approved:___________ City of Waukee JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Recreation Lead Reports to: Recreation Supervisors Dept/Div: Parks & Recreation Direct Reports: None Union Status: Non-represented FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Pay Grade: N31 JOB PURPOSE: The Recreation Lead provides supervision of facilities, and supervision and instruction to participants associated with Parks and Recreation Department leagues during evenings, weekends and holidays. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Order of Essential Functions does not indicate importance of functions.) 1. Supervises league participants and facilities during Parks & Recreation Department activities. 2. Performs general maintenance and housekeeping duties at facilities as required. 3. Manages concession stands, directs staff, and assists as needed. 4. Maintains responsibility for cash at concession stand ensuring integrity of funds. 5. Solves basic problems and/or complaints that arise. 6. Enforces user-policies at parks and facilities. 7. Provides final on-site decisions interpreting league rules for consistent application. 8. Responds promptly to incidents and/or accidents providing leadership and direction. Completes incident/accident reports. 9. Provides clear communication and updates to the Recreation Supervisors in the event of inclement weather or emergency situations. 10. Performs other duties or assumes other responsibilities as apparent or assigned. SUCCESS FACTORS: 1. Knowledgeable of league rules. 2. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High School diploma or GED required. BA/BS or in pursuit thereof preferred. 2. Minimum age 18. 3. Be comfortable working in close proximity with patrons of all ages. 4. Must possess valid CPR, First Aid, and AED Certifications or ability to obtain within 14 days of employment. 5. Must possess a valid Driver’s License, and meet the requirements of the City's motor vehicle policy. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 1. Be responsive to visual and verbal alarms and other indications of distress. 2. Able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds occasionally. Able to effectively communicate orally (in person and over the telephone) and in writing (using electronic devices and handwritten) in English with other employees, businesses and community members. WORKING CONDITIONS: 1. Position requires outdoor work where heat, cold, precipitation, and the results of weather and nature may be encountered. 2. Position requires travel within the City which imposes common travel hazards. 3. Standard work hours will vary from zero to 40 plus hours per week to meet the needs of the department and will include evenings and weekends. 4. To successfully fulfill the essential functions of this position, employee must be present at assigned location. 5. There is no residency requirement for this position.
