SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The project bid letting was held at Waukee City Hall
on April 2, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Four (4) bids were received with the low
base bid from Concrete Connections, of Johnston, IA, in the amount of
$639,327.50, with an Add Alternate in the amount of $53,650.00. City
staff recommends award of the base bid only.
FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS:$639,327.50.

STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: City staff recommends awarding contract to Concrete
Connections, of Johnston, IA, in the amount of $639,327.50.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution awarding contract to Concrete Connections, of

RESOLUTION 18-
RESOLUTION MAKING AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION
CONTRACT FOR THE WAUKEE TRAILHEAD AND DOG
PARK
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE,
STATE OF IOWA:
Section 1. That the following bid for the construction of certain public improvements
described in general as the Waukee Trailhead and Dog Park, described in the plans and
specifications heretofore adopted by this Council on April 16, 2018, be and is hereby accepted,
the same being the lowest responsive, responsible bid received for such work, as follows:
Contractor: Concrete Connections, LLC, of Johnston, IA
Amount of bid: $639,327.50
Portion of project: All construction work
Section 2. That the Mayor and Clerk are hereby directed to execute the contract with the
contractor for the construction of the public improvements, such contract not to be binding on the
City until approved by this Council.

Waukee Trailhead and Dog Park
Dear Matt:
Bids were opened at 2:00pm on April 2, 2018 for the Waukee Trailhead and Dog Park project. A total of
four (4) bids were submitted and read publicly.
The apparent low bidder is Concrete Connection, LLC of Johnston, Iowa. We have contacted Concrete
Connection and they are comfortable with the bid numbers provided in their proposal.
We recommend accepting Concrete Connection’s Base Bid Proposal of $639,327.50. We also
recommend considering Add Alternate #1 Decomposed Granite for $53,650.
