JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Parks & Recreation Facilities Manager Reports to: Parks & Recreation Director
Dept/Div: Parks & Recreation Direct Reports: Horticulturist, Golf Course
Pay Grade: N33 Superintendent, Triumph Park
Superintendent
FLSA Status: Exempt
JOB PURPOSE: Oversee the agronomic practices at Triumph Park and Sugar Creek Golf Course including
adjacent grounds, landscaping, and irrigation. Maintain all equipment and buildings and
supervise the performance of contractors and construction projects. Ensure the high
standards of beautification of all city-owned green spaces and the effective and efficient day-
to-day operation of Triumph Park and Sugar Creek Golf Course.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Oversee the maintenance of all grounds at Triumph Park and Sugar Creek Golf Course.
Collaborate with the Assistant Parks and Recreation Director, or their delegee, in the scheduling of ball fields
for practice, league and tournament play.
Inspect playing fields, golf course, city owned landscaping, and other City owned green spaces determining
need for repair, improvement, and general upkeep.
Supervise all planting, fertilizing, chemical application, and other care of turf, plants, shrubs, and trees on
City owned property.
Supervise operation and maintenance of drainage, underground irrigation, and other mechanical watering
systems throughout the City.
Review, code and approve all invoices associated with day-to-day operations within Triumph Park, Sugar
Creek Golf Course, and maintenance of landscaping areas within the City.
Write, review, recommend, and manage the RFP/RFQ process as needed for department contracts or
proposals for a wide variety of projects and needs.
Evaluate, hire, oversee, and coordinate contractor work at Triumph Park and Sugar Creek Golf Course.
Provide input and manage annual budget for Triumph Park, Sugar Creek Golf Course, and horticulture
operations.
Maintain a capital equipment replacement program.
Prepare and maintain all recordkeeping documentation. (i.e., human resources records, inventory sheets,
fertilization and chemical application logs, equipment maintenance schedules.)
Investigate citizen complaints, requests for service, and any necessary follow-up to ensure proper and timely
resolution.
Assist with coordination of snow removal of all parks, trails, and city owned facilities.
Performs other duties or assumes other responsibilities as apparent or assigned.

maintenance equipment and tools.

QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of additional schooling in turfgrass science and management,
recreation management, agronomy, or closely related field required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Five years of progressively responsible experience in facility operations or recreation administration,
including at least two years of supervisory experience and three years of facility and grounds maintenance
experience.
Commercial pesticide applicator certification in category 3O – Ornamental pest control, 5 – Aquatic pest
control, and 6 – Right-of-way or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification required within 30 days of employment (employer provided)
Must reside within a 30-minute response time due to the need to respond to emergency calls in a timely
manner to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of Waukee.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and meet the requirements of the City’s motor vehicle policy.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Able to sit and walk for long periods of time with intermittent periods of standing.
Able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
Frequent talking, near and far sight acuity, dexterity, concentration, and judgement. Constant hearing.
Moderate exposure to weather, wet and/or humid conditions, dirt/dust, and odors.
Intermittent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, feeling, smelling.
Constant depth perception, color vision, field of vision.
Must be able to effectively communicate orally (in person and over the telephone) and in writing (using
electronic devices and handwritten) in English with other employees, businesses, and community members.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Standard work hours will be Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM.
Ability to work occasional evening, weekend, and holiday hours.
Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods under adverse weather conditions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public.
Willing to work long hours when necessary, to meet the expectations of the job description.
May be exposed daily to odors, dusts and gasses that may be uncomfortable or hazardous if proper
procedures are not followed.
