HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022-04-04 J01D Street Closing_4th of JulyAGENDA ITEM: CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA CITY COUNCIL MEETING COMMUNICATION MEETING DATE: April 4, 2022 AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of a resolution approving the temporary closing of certain public streets for the City of Waukee Celebration of Independence FORMAT:Consent Agenda SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The temporary street closings are related to the parade route and fireworks display on July 4. FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT: STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Iowa Code §364.12(2)(a) states that public ways and grounds may be temporarily closed by resolution. RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution. ATTACHMENTS: I. Proposed Resolution PREPARED BY:Becky Schuett REVIEWED BY: J1D THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA RESOLUTION 2022- APPROVING THE TEMPORARY CLOSING OF CERTAIN PUBLIC STREETS FOR THE CITY OF WAUKEE CELEBRATION OF INDEPENDENCE IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA WHEREAS, the Waukee Parks and Recreation Department requests the following temporary closures of specific public streets for activities associated with the Celebration of Independence: Parade – Monday, July 4, 2022: The temporary closing of SE Westown Parkway from SE Florence Drive west to SE L.A. Grant Parkway; SE L.A. Grant Parkway from SE Westown Parkway north to SE University Avenue; SE Ashworth Drive north and west from SE University Avenue to the SE Ashworth Drive/Warrior Lane roundabout, beginning 10:00 a.m. and ending when the parade is concluded. Fireworks Display – Monday, July 4, 2022: The temporary closing of SE University Avenue from S. Warrior Lane east to SE Waddell Way and S. Warrior Lane from SE University Avenue north to SE Park Road beginning 8:30 p.m. and ending 10:30 p.m.; with a “rain date” temporary closing of the same said streets at the same said times on Tuesday, July 5, 2022; AND, WHEREAS, pursuant to §364.12(2)(a), public ways and grounds may be temporarily closed by resolution; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this 4th day of April, 2022, that it hereby approves the temporary closing of certain public streets for the City of Waukee Celebration of Independence. ____________________________ Courtney Clarke, Mayor Attest: ___________________________________ Rebecca D.
