Creek Trunk Sewer Extension Phase 5 Project]
FORMAT:Resolution
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The bids are for all labor, materials and equipment
necessary for approximately 3,000 linear feet of 8-inch through 24-inch diameter sanitary sewer
in open cut and augured in steel casing, water main service pipe, manholes, excavation and
backfill, surface restoration and miscellaneous associated work, including cleanup.
Bids were received on April 12, 2022, with four general contractors submitting bids. The
engineer’s estimate for the project was $1,100,000.00, The apparent low bid was submitted by
J&K Contracting, LLC of Urbandale, Iowa for $966,966.00. This bid is approximately 12.1%
below the engineer’s estimate.
Based on review of the bids received and the project budget, Veenstra & Kimm, Inc. recommends
award of the project for a total amount of $966,966.00 to J&K Contracting, LLC of Urbandale,
IA. The total project budget is $1,400.00. This project has a November 25, 2022 substantial
complete date and a final completion date of May 31, 2023.
FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: $966,966.00

STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Staff recommend approval of the resolution awarding
the contract to J&K Contracting, LLC of Urbandale, IA [Little Walnut Creek Trunk Sewer –
Phase 5 Project]
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution.

RESOLUTION MAKING AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION
CONTRACT FOR THE LITTLE WALNUT CREEK TRUNK
SEWER EXTENSION - PHASE 5
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, STATE
OF IOWA:
Section 1.That the following bid for the construction of certain public improvements
described in general as the Little Walnut Creek Trunk Sewer Extension - Phase 5, described in the
plans and specifications heretofore adopted by this Council on April 18, 2022, be and is hereby
accepted, the same being the lowest responsive, responsible bid received for such work, as follows:
Contractor:J&K Contracting, LLC,of Urbandale, IA
Amount of bid:$966,966.00
Portion of project:All construction work
Section 2.That the Mayor and Clerk are hereby directed to execute the contract with the
contractor for the construction of the public improvements, such contract not to be binding on the
City until approved by this Council.
