SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The bids are for furnishing all labor, materials and
equipment necessary for manhole rehabilitation, repairs, adjustments, chimney seals, Portland
cement concrete pavement replacement, surface restoration and miscellaneous associated work,
including cleaning, testing and cleanup.
Bids were received on June 14, 2022, with two general contractors submitting bids. The
engineer’s estimate for the project was $150,000.00, The apparent low bid was submitted by
Hydro-Klean, LLC of Des Moines, Iowa for $96,110.00. This bid is approximately 35% below
the engineer’s estimate.
Based on review of the bids received and the project budget, Veenstra & Kimm, Inc. recommends
award of the project for a total amount of $96,110.00 to Hydro-Klean, LLC. The total project
budget is $180K. This project has a completion date of May 31, 2023.
FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: $96,110.00
COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT:
STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Staff recommend approval of the resolution awarding
the contract to Hydro-Klean, LLC of Des Moines, IA [2022/2023 Manhole Rehabilitation
Project].
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution.

RESOLUTION MAKING AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION
CONTRACT FOR THE 2022/2023 MANHOLE
REHABILITATION PROJECT
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, STATE
OF IOWA:
Section 1.That the following bid for the construction of certain public improvements
described in general as the 2022/2023 Manhole Rehabilitation Project, described in the plans and
specifications heretofore adopted by this Council on June 20, 2022, be and is hereby accepted, the
same being the lowest responsive, responsible bid received for such work, as follows:
Contractor:Hydro-Klean, LLC,of Clive, IA
Amount of bid:$96,110.00
Portion of project:All construction work
Section 2.That the Mayor and Clerk are hereby directed to execute the contract with the
contractor for the construction of the public improvements, such contract not to be binding on the
City until approved by this Council.
