Trunk Sewer Extension Phase 2 Project]

SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The bids are for furnishing all materials, labor and
equipment necessary for approximately 8,400 linear feet of 12-inch through 24-inch diameter
sanitary sewer in open cut, manholes, excavation and backfill, surface restoration, plantings and
miscellaneous associated work, including cleanup.
Bids were received on June 14, 2022, with three general contractors submitting bids. The
engineer’s estimate for the project was $2,900,000.00, The apparent low bid was submitted by
Priority Excavating, LLC of Des Moines, Iowa for $2,698,745.00. This bid is approximately
6.9% below the engineer’s estimate.
Staff and the Project Engineer are reviewing the bids received and recommend continuing any
action by City Council until the July 5th regularly scheduled meeting.
FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: $2,698,745.00

STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Motion to continue action by City Council until the July
5th regularly scheduled meeting.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution.

RESOLUTION MAKING AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION
CONTRACT FOR THE WEST AREA TRUNK SEWER
EXTENSION - PHASE 2
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, STATE
OF IOWA:
Section 1.That the following bid for the construction of certain public improvements
described in general as the West Area Trunk Sewer Extension - Phase 2, described in the plans
and specifications heretofore adopted by this Council on June 20, 2022, be and is hereby accepted,
the same being the lowest responsive, responsible bid received for such work, as follows:

Section 2.That the Mayor and Clerk are hereby directed to execute the contract with the
contractor for the construction of the public improvements, such contract not to be binding on the
City until approved by this Council.
