FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT: STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: The Fire Chief and Human Resources Director recommend the approval of the agreement. THOMAS WERNIMONT [MEDICAL DIRECTOR] IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Dallas County, State of Iowa, is a duly organized Municipal Organization; AND, WHEREAS, state regulations require local emergency medical service providers to procure a medical director; AND, WHEREAS, Dr. Thomas Wernimont has agreed to continue as the Waukee Fire Department EMS Medical Director; AND, WHEREAS, The Fire Chief and Human Resources Director have reviewed and approved the agreement. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Waukee, Iowa on this 20th day of June 2022, that it hereby approves the agreement with Dr. Thomas Wernimont to be the Medical Director for the Waukee Fire Department. ____________________________ Courtney Clarke, Mayor Attest: ___________________________________ Rebecca D. Grant Parkway FAX: 515-987-5473 Waukee, IA 50263 June 21, 2022 The medical director shall be responsible for providing appropriate medical direction and overall supervision of the medical aspects of the Emergency Medical Services Department. The medical director's duties include, but are not limited to:  Assist in the development and approval of protocols to be used by the service program  Monitor and evaluate the activities of the service program and individual personal performance.  Be available for individual evaluation and consultation to service personnel as needed.  Perform or appoint a designee to oversee/complete medical audits as required.  Ensure maintenance of skills of service program personnel.  Review and approve required equipment and supplies stocked in the City's ambulances.  Be available to provide necessary documentation for the service to order approved medications, including approved narcotics from a pre-determined vendor. City duties include but are not limited to:  The City of Waukee retains the right to employ the individuals they choose, the medical director retains the right to determine who will be allowed to perform services as EMS providers, and have the ability to suspend and reinstate those privileges.  The medical director is covered under the city’s general liability insurance.  Compensation to the medical director will be provided in the form of $7,500 stipend per year, paid in equal amounts on a monthly basis. The amount will be reviewed concurrent with the city fiscal year budget preparations.  The city agrees to provide the resources needed to provide personnel, training and supplies necessary to maintain a high standard of service to the community. This agreement may be terminated by either party on one month's written notice. The medical director shall ensure that their duties and responsibilities are not relinquished before a new or temporary replacement is functioning in that capacity.
