Warrior Lane, 3/4 -mile North of U.S. Highway 6 (Hickman Rd). Work includes grading, PCC paving, storm sewer, water main, subdrain, pavement markings, signing, and associated work. The project also includes installation of a Joint Utility Trench (JUT) along NW Douglas Parkway between NW 2nd Street and N. Warrior Lane and along NW 2nd Street from NW Douglas Parkway to approximately 850-feet south. Bids were received on July 13, 2022, with four general contractors submitting bids. The engineer’s estimate for the project was $1,503,337.00, The apparent low bid was submitted by Concrete Technologies Incorporated of Grimes, Iowa for $1,386,940.85. Snyder and Associates recommends award of the contract to Concrete Technologies Incorporated of Grimes, Iowa for $1,386,940.85. This bid is approximately 7.7% below the engineer’s estimate. Four bids were received and opened ranging from $1,386,940.85 to $1,541,869.00. Our opinion of probable construction cost was $1,504,000. The low bid was submitted by Concrete Technologies, Inc. of Grimes, Iowa. We were pleased with the interest from contractors and the number of bids received. Upon further inspection of the bids, Absolute Concrete did not submit the second page of the bidder status form, however, this does not affect the outcome of the bid. The low bidder is primarily a paving contractor and therefore able to self-perform a large component of the work. They also own a ready-mix concrete company, CTI Ready Mix, LLC and have experience with similar sized projects in the area and for the City of Waukee. We recommend award of the contract to the low bidder, Concrete Technologies, Inc.
