SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The bid opening for this project took place on
Wednesday, August 31, 2022. at 2:30 p.m. in the Waukee Council
Chambers. Four (4) bids were received, with the apparent low bid from
Bergstrom Construction, Inc., of Des Moines, IA, in the amount of
$194,000.00. The engineer’s estimate for the project was $222,230.67.
FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: $194,000.00.
COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT:
STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Staff recommends awarding contract to Bergstrom
Construction, Inc., of Des Moines, IA, in the amount of $194,000.00.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution.

RESOLUTION 2022-
RESOLUTION MAKING AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION
CONTRACT FOR THE WAUKEE CITY HALL SECURITY
UPGRADES PROJECT
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, STATE
OF IOWA:
Section 1.That the following bid for the construction of certain public improvements
described in general as the Waukee City Hall Security Upgrades Project, described in the plans
and specifications heretofore adopted by this Council on September 6, 2022, be and is hereby
accepted, the same being the lowest responsive, responsible bid received for such work, as follows:
Contractor:Bergstrom Construction, Inc.,of Des Moines, IA
Amount of bid:$194,000.00
Portion of project:All construction work
Section 2.That the Mayor and Clerk are hereby directed to execute the contract with the
contractor for the construction of the public improvements, such contract not to be binding on the
City until approved by this Council.
PASSED AND APPROVED this 6th day of September, 2022.

RE: Bid Recommendation for Waukee City Hall – Security Upgrades
(OPN Project: 22819000)
Brad: On Wednesday, August 31st, we received four bids for the Security Upgrades
project at Waukee City Hall. The apparent low bidder on the project was Bergstrom
Construction out of Des Moines. The bids were competitive across all four bidders, and
fortunately three of the four bids were below our cost estimate. The low bid is
approximately 12.7% below our estimate. You can review the specifics of the bid results
on the attached bid tab.
OPN would recommend that the City of Waukee accept the base bid as outlined below:
General Contract:
Bergstrom Construction, Inc.
Base Bid $194,000
Total Accepted Cost……………………………………………….……..$194,000
Upon direction from the city council, OPN will prepare a letter to proceed for Berstrom
Construction, Inc. and create contracts between the City of Waukee and the contractor.
