FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS:$88,210.75 COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT: STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: RECOMMENDATION: City staff recommends awarding the contract to Caliber Concrete, LLC, of Adair, IA in the amount of $88,210.75. Bid tabulation PREPARED BY: Becky Schuett REVIEWED BY: H2B RESOLUTION 2023- RESOLUTION MAKING AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT FOR THE HEART OF WARRIOR TRAIL WEST EXTENSION BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, STATE OF IOWA: Section 1.That the following bid for the construction of certain public improvements described in general as the Heart of Warrior Trail West Extension, described in the plans and specifications heretofore adopted by this Council on February 21, 2023, be and is hereby accepted, the same being the lowest responsive, responsible bid received for such work, as follows: Contractor:Caliber Concrete, LLC,of Adair, IA Amount of bid:$88,210.75 Portion of project:All construction work Section 2.That the Mayor and Clerk are hereby directed to execute the contract with the contractor for the construction of the public improvements, such contract not to be binding on the City until approved by this Council. The Engineer’s Estimate for the total base bid was $126,194.00. Nine bids were received. All bidders were responsive, and bids are summarized as follows: Bidder Total Base Bid Caliber Concrete LLC $88,210.75 Brothers Concrete $106,027.50 Howrey Construction, Inc. $119,929.25 TK Concrete, Inc. $128,150.00 Berkey Homebuilders, Inc. dba Concrete Professionals $136,628.00 Elder Corporation $139,900.00 Omega Solutions $152,682.50 Shekar Engineering, PLC $166,546.20 MPS Engineers, P.C. dba Kingston Services, P.C. $177,929.50 The bid received from Caliber Concrete was 35.43% below the engineers estimate for the project, and was determined to be the lowest responsive, responsible bidder. Bolton & Menk, Inc. has reviewed the bid documents submitted and checked references on this bidder and was satisfied with responses given. Therefore, Bolton & Menk, Inc. recommends the award of the Heart of Warrior Trail West Extension project to Caliber Concrete LLC, for the base bid amount of $88,210.75 (Eighty-Eight Thousand, Two-Hundred and Ten Dollars and Seventy-Five Cents).
