Building Remediation Program grant full application
FORMAT:Resolution
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: Staff has been working with Husk Homes on the
redevelopment of the former Pin Oak building (405 6th St.) in the Downtown
Triangle District. This project would fulfill a number of goals identified in the
recent Downtown Assessment including, redeveloping a vacant building,
securing a restaurant user, increasing downtown walkability and acting as a
catalyst for future projects.
IEDA’s Community Catalyst Building Remediation Program was identified as a
potential source of funds for the rehabilitation of the former Pin Oak building.
The City is eligible to pursue the maximum $100,000 grant with financial
contribution from the City in partnership with the building owner/developer. The
application process is as follows;
Pre-applications must be submitted on January 27, 2023
Full Applications were by invitation ONLY
Application Deadline: April 14, 2023
Announcement: June 2023
A successful pre-application will bring the City one step closer securing a grant.

RESOLUTION 2023-
AUTHORIZING THE SUBMITTAL OF A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE IOWA
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY (IEDA) COMMUNITY CATALYST
BUILDING REMEDIATION PROGRAM
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Dallas County, State of Iowa, is a duly organized Municipal
Organization; AND,
WHEREAS, the City Council and the City of Waukee have established the expanded
development of community and leisure opportunities as a Council goal; AND,
WHEREAS, the City Council and the City of Waukee recognize downtown revitalization as an
economic development priority; AND,
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee has identified the Iowa Economic Development Authority
(IEDA) as a potential funding source for the redevelopment, rehabilitation or deconstruction of
buildings to stimulate economic growth or reinvestment in the community; AND,
WHEREAS, on January 16, 2023, the Waukee City Council approved a resolution authorizing
the submittal of an IEDA Community Catalyst Building Remediation Program Grant pre-
application (Resolution #2023-022); AND,
WHEREAS, IEDA has approved the grant pre-application, giving the City of Waukee the
authority to move forward with a full grant application; AND;
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee has available funds to fulfill its share of obligation should the
grant funds be awarded.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council that it hereby
authorizes the submittal of a grant application to the Iowa Economic Development Authority
(IEDA) Community Catalyst Grant Program on behalf of the City of Waukee.
Passed by the City Council of the City of Waukee, Iowa, and approved the 3rd day of April,
2023.
