Traffic Signal Enhancements, Waukee School & Trail Crossing
Improvements Project, and ratifying, confirming and approving deadline
for submission of bids and fixing a date for hearing thereon and taking of
bids therefor

SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The project includes furnishing of labor, materials,
and equipment necessary for existing traffic signal modifications and the installation of rectangular
rapid flashing beacons at 21 intersections at various locations in Waukee and other miscellaneous
items including to complete the project. The purpose of the project is to improve safe routes to
schools and trail crossings at these various locations.
This project is part of the approved FY 2024-28 CIP with a total project budget of $315,000. The
Iowa Department of Transportation has taken bids for this project on April 18, 2023 and results of
those bids will be reported at the May 15, 2023 Waukee City Council meeting.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING ON PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS, PROPOSED FORM OF CONTRACT AND
ESTIMATE OF COST FOR CONSTRUCTION OF TRAFFIC SIGNAL ENHANCEMENT, WAUKEE SCHOOL AND
TRAIL CROSSING IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT FOR THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA.
The City Council of Waukee, Iowa, will hold a public hearing on the proposed Plans, Specifications,
Form of Contract and Estimate of Costs for the construction of the above referenced public
improvements at 5:30 P.M. on May 15, 2023. At said hearing, any interested person may appear and
file objections thereto or to the cost of the improvements. The work to be done is as follows:
Modification to existing right turn signal indications when the movement crosses a trail at 17 traffic
signalized intersections and installation of rectangular rapid flashing beacon crossing assemblies at
four school crossings.
The Traffic Signal Enhancement, Waukee School and Trail Crossing Improvements Project is located
at various locations in Waukee, more specifically at intersections along W and E Hickman Road from
10th Street to SE Alice’s Road, along SE Alice’s Road from E Hickman Road to SE Kettlestone
Boulevard, along 6th Street from Northview Drive to Waukee Avenue and along Ashworth Road near
Serenity Drive.
Due to public health concerns and guidance, in accordance with Iowa Code Sections 21.4(1)(b) and
21.8, this meeting of the Waukee City Council will be conducted with two different options for public
participation: 1) Members of the public wishing to attend in person may do so in the Council
Chambers at Waukee City Hall. 2) Members of the public wishing to participate electronically may do
