AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of Change Order No. 1 to Grimes Asphalt and
Paving Corporation for the 2023 Asphalt Overlay Improvements Project
increasing the contract amount by $114,911.93.
FORMAT:Consent Agenda
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: Change Order No. 1 is for additional milling, crack
and seat, overlay, saw cutting, and pavement markings to reconstruct
Ashworth Drive from 2nd Street to 4th Street. The overlay completed in
2022 is not performing as was expected and is being reconstructed using
a revised methodology. The expense will be reimbursed by the design
engineer, McClure Engineering Company.
FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: The net result of this
Change Order increases the contract price in the amount of $114,911.93.

2023 Asphalt Overlay Improvements

Dear Rudy,
Please find the attached Change Order #1 for the 2023 Asphalt Overlay Improvements. The change order
includes the following items:
· Additional milling, crack and seat, overlay, sawcutting, and pavement markings to reconstruct Ashworth
Drive from 2nd Street to 4th Street.
The overlay completed in 2022 is not performing as was expected the preferred course of action is to
reconstruct the overlay using a crack and seat construction method.
The completion date for the contract is unchanged by this change order.
We have reviewed the change order and deem it reasonable for the work to be completed. If City staff concurs
with this change, we recommend the City of Waukee approve this change order in the amount of $114,911.93
to the construction contract for 2023 Asphalt Overlay Improvements with Grimes Asphalt and Paving
Corporation of Des Moines, IA.
