AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of Change Order No. 1 to Elder Corporation for the
Heart of the Warrior Trailside Improvements Project in the amount of
$5,410.00.
FORMAT:Consent Agenda
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: Change Order No. 1 to Elder Corporation is for an
additional subdrain to be added to the edge of the planting bed on the low side
of the project site. The subdrain will improve drainage within the planting
soils which have been saturated due to low infiltration rates in the surround
on-site soils. This will improve the short and long term health of the butterfly
garden plants. Additional permanent seeding quantity is being added to match
the actual disturbed area to be stabilized. The quantities completed to date
have been reviewed and agreed upon by the contractor, City of Waukee Staff,
and Shive-Hattery.

Dear Mr. Jermier:
Please find attached Change Order #1 for the Heart of the Warrior Trail - Trailside Improvements
project. The change order includes the following items:
• Added Subdrain
• Additional Permanent Seeding
A subdrain is being added to the edge of the planting bed on the low side of the project site. The

We have reviewed the change order items and unit prices, and both are in line with anticipated
amounts. If City staff concurs with this change, we recommend the City of Waukee approve this change
order in the amount of $5,410.00 to the construction contract for the Heart of the Warrior Trail - Trailside
Improvements with Elder Corporation of Pleasant Hill, IA.

Item 9 is being increased in quantity to match the actual disturbed area required for stabilization.
Change Order Item CO-1.1 is for 4-inch subdrain installed with porous backfill along the southwest edge of the southern planting bed. Installation plan location and detail will
comply with plan drawing CSK01 issued to contractor on 8/11/2023.
