AGENDA ITEM: Consideration of approval of a resolution approving a public street name
change from T Avenue to NW 20th Street or 20th Street and amending certain
addresses
FORMAT: Resolution
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: Due to growth and westward expansion of development
within the city, it is necessary to change the existing street name of T Avenue
to 20th Street or NW 20th Street. 20th Street would be the portion of T Avenue
south of Hickman Road and NW 20th Street would be the portion of T Avenue
north of Hickman Road. There are four existing addresses along T Avenue
that need to be updated to reflect the new street names as well as to implement
the correct numbering to the City’s grid system to ensure adequate emergency
response.
FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS:

STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Staff sent letters to all affected addresses on August 2, 2023.
The only correspondence received was from Waukee Chirstian Church who
contacted staff to indicated their preferred address. Waukee Christian Church
is located at the corner of Hickman Road and T Avenue and were given the
option of having a 20th Street address or a Hickman Road address. City staff
will coordinate with the post office on the changes and both the existing
address and proposed address will continue to be recognized for a period of 18
months.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff is recommending approval of the resolution which includes properties
located along T Avenue north and south of Hickman Road.

APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION APPROVING A PUBLIC STREET NAME
CHANGE FROM T AVENUE TO NW 20TH STREET OR 20TH STREET AND
AMENDING CERTAIN ADDRESSES
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Dallas County, State of Iowa, is a duly organized
Municipal Organization; AND,
WHEREAS, the properties identified below have previously been annexed into the City
and their current addresses do not reflect the City’s number grid and street naming system:
AND,
WHEREAS, as development continues to increase within the area, it is important to have
a unified and consistent street naming and addressing system in order to avoid issues with
mail delivery and emergency response; AND,
WHEREAS, staff recommends changing the following local addresses within the City in
order to be consistent with the previously approved addressing coordinate and numbering
system enacted by Waukee City Council as follows:

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Waukee,
Iowa in session this 5th day of September 2023, that the local addresses as referenced
above are amended and the public street, T Avenue, be renamed to NW 20th Street north of
Hickman Road (Hwy 6) and be renamed to 20th Street south of Hickman Road (Hwy 6). A
copy of this resolution shall be filed of record with the Recorders Office of Dallas County,
Iowa.

Hi Marcus,
This will be placed in the Locatable Address Conversion System or LACS. The customers won’t need to submit COAs for
these as long as we get a list of the addresses changed. We will need to know both old and new.
It works like a COA so the mail will receive a sprayed COA type indicator or yellow sficker informing the recipient to
inform the sender of the new address for 12 months. Months 13-18 the mail with the old address will RTS informing the
sender of the change.
