AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of a resolution approving Agreement for
Professional Consulting Services with Veenstra & Kimm, Inc. [West Area
Trunk Sewer Extension – Phase 3]
FORMAT:Resolution
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The work to be performed by the Consultant under this
agreement shall encompass and include detailed work, services, materials, equipment and supplies
necessary to complete analysis and design for the project. The project consists of installation of
approximately 2,800 LF of 24-inch diameter sanitary sewer along a tributary of Sugar Creek south of
310th Street from an existing 24-inch diameter sewer approximately 7,500 LF west of Ute Avenue to
the west side of T Avenue.
This project is in the draft FY 2025-29 CIP with a total budget of $2M. V&K’s design and
construction services are for an amount not to exceed $177K. This is 8.9% of the project budget and
within the acceptable range for such services. The project has a schedule to complete design in April
2024, bid the project in May 2024 and have a construction period from July 2024 to May 2025.
FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: City agrees to pay the Consultant
a Not-to-Exceed sum of $117,000.00, including any authorized reimbursable expenses, pursuant to the
Schedule of Fees set forth in Attachment 3 of the agreement.
Basic Services of the Consultant
A.Design $ 118,000.00
B.Construction Services & Staking $ 59,000.00
Total $ 117,000.00

APPROVING AGREEMENT FOR PROFESSIONAL CONSULTING SERVICES WITH
VEENSTRA & KIMM, INC. [WEST AREA TRUNK SEWER EXTENSION PHASE 3
PROJECT]
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Dallas County, State of Iowa, is a duly organized Municipal
Organization; AND,
WHEREAS, the City desires to retain the consultant services of Veenstra & Kimm, Inc. for the
West Area Trunk Sewer Extension Phase 3 Project; AND,
WHEREAS, the scope of services includes detailed work, services, materials, equipment and
supplies necessary to complete analysis and design for the West Area Trunk Sewer Extension Phase 3
Project; AND,
WHEREAS, the project consists of installation of approximately 2,800 feet of 24-inch diameter
sanitary sewer main along an unnamed tributary of Sugar Creek south of 310th Street from an
existing 24-inch diameter sanitary sewer approximately 7,500 feet west of Ute Avenue/R22 to
the west side of T Avenue; AND,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Waukee that the
Agreement for Professional Consulting Services between Veenstra & Kimm, Inc. and the City of
Waukee, Iowa [West Area Trunk Sewer Extension Phase 3 Project] is hereby approved.
Passed by the City Council of the City of Waukee, Iowa, and approved the 5th day of February,
2024.
