AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of a motion setting April 1, 2024, as the date
of public hearing on proposals for the purchase and removal of structures
owned by the City of Waukee [925 Laurel Street]
FORMAT:Motion
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The City purchased the property located at 925
Laurel St. in 2019 for future street improvements and redevelopment
opportunities in the vicinity. The home has not been inhabited for
several years and City staff recommend the solicitation of quotes for the
removal of the house and a detached garage. An April 1, 2024, public
hearing date is recommended to consider any bids that are received for
the purchase and relocation of either structure.

Purchase and Removal of Structures
925 Laurel Street, Waukee, Iowa
Sealed proposals must be filed with the City Clerk of the City of Waukee, Iowa, at the City
Hall, 230 W. Hickman Road, Waukee, Iowa, before 2:00 P.M. on the 28th day of March,
2024. Proposals will be opened and the amount of the bids announced in the Council
Chambers at the City Hall by the City Clerk at the time and date specified above.
Proposals will be acted upon by the City Council of said City in the Council Chambers at
5:30 P.M. on the 1st day of April, 2024, or at such later time and place as then may be
fixed. In accordance with Iowa Code Sections 21.4(1)(b) and 21.8, this meeting of the
Waukee City Council will be conducted with two different options for public participation:
1) Members of the public wishing to attend in person may do so in the Council Chambers at
Waukee City Hall. 2) Members of the public wishing to participate electronically may do so

In-person meetings are subject to change under certain circumstances, including but not

General Description:
The structures for sale at 925 Laurel Street are a two-story single family home built in 1905
of approximately 1844 square feet and a 20’ by 32’ detached garage built in 1972.
The structures are being offered “as is” and without warranty of any kind. The successful
bidder will be responsible for complying with all applicable state and local building,
plumbing, electrical and mechanical codes and ensure the relocation site is properly
zoned. The successful bidder(s) will be responsible for any hazardous materials
mitigation that may be necessary.
The structure shall be relocated in its entirety. Proposals for less than the entire structure
will not be accepted by the City of Waukee.
The structure must be moved entirely from its current location no later than Friday, May
31, 2024. Failure to meet the deadline specified above will result in forfeiture of the
purchase price and performance security and demolition of the structure(s) by the City.
