AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of a Resolution of Support for increasing
board membership of the Dallas County Board of Supervisors
FORMAT:Consent Agenda
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The Dallas County Board of Supervisors consists of
three elected members. In light of rapid growth and to provide better
representation for all Dallas County residents, a Resolution of Support is
proposed requesting the Dallas County Board of Supervisors to adopt a
resolution placing a proposal before the voters of Dallas County on the
November 2024 ballot that would increase the membership of the Dallas
County Board of Supervisors five members.

RESOLUTION 2024-
RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR INCREASING BOARD MEMBERSHIP OF THE
DALLAS COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Dallas County, State of Iowa, is a duly organized Municipal
Organization; AND,
WHEREAS, the Dallas County Board of Supervisors consists of three (3) elected members;
AND,
WHEREAS, Dallas County is the fastest growing county in the State of Iowa and is among the
fastest growing counties within the United States; AND,
WHEREAS, considering such continuing growth and to provide better representation for all
Dallas County residents, the Waukee City Council supports a ballot measure to increase the
membership of the Dallas County Board of Supervisors to five (5) elected members.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Waukee City Council on this 6th day of May, 2024,
that it hereby requests the Dallas County Board of Supervisors to adopt a resolution placing a
proposal before the voters of Dallas County on the November 2024 ballot that would increase the
membership of the Dallas County Board of Supervisors from three (3) to five (5) members.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Waukee City Council that, if the Dallas County Board
of Supervisors does not consider and approve such a resolution by its June 4, 2024, regular
meeting, Mayor Courtney Clarke, in collaboration with other Dallas County mayors and in
compliance with Iowa Code Section 331.203, is hereby directed to collect signatures on a
petition to place the proposal on the November 2024 ballot that would increase the membership
of the Dallas County Board of Supervisors from three (3) to five (5) members.
