AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of a resolution adopting and allocating funds for an
outdoor Fitness Court as part of the 2025 National Fitness Campaign
FORMAT:Resolution
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The City of Waukee submitted a Grant Application to the
National Fitness Campaign for participation in the 2025 initiative to install an
active outdoor Fitness Court. This resolution accepts a $30,000 National
Grant from the NFC Grant Committee and provides a local match in the
amount of $135,000 to promote and implement a fee-to-the-public outdoor
Finess Court. It is anticipated that the City will fundraise and be successful
with local grants to meet the match fund requirement. The City of Waukee
agrees to dedicate a minimum of $50,000 in funding to prepare the site and
install Fitness Court infrastructure. It is anticipated that fundraising will take
place from June 2024 – June 2025. Construction would start in July of 2025
and be completed by September 2025.

RESOLUTION 2024-
ADOPTING AND ALLOCATING FUNDS FOR AN OUTDOOR FITNESS COURT® AS
PART OF THE 2025 NATIONAL FITNESS CAMPAIGN
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Dallas County, State of Iowa, is a duly organized Municipal
Organization; AND,
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee has submitted a Grant Application to National Fitness
Campaign (NFC) for participation in their 2025 initiative to install and activate outdoor Fitness
Courts® in 200 cities and schools across the country; AND,
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee will accept a $30,000 National Grant from the NFC Grant
Committee and Statewide Partners, and provide a local match in the amount of $135,000 to
promote and implement a free-to-the-public outdoor Fitness Court®; AND,
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee will prepare to dedicate up to $50,000 in additional funding or
in-kind materials and labor in order to prepare the site and install Fitness Court® infrastructure;
AND,
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee will commit to construction and launch of the outdoor Fitness
Court® by the end of the calendar year; AND,
WHEREAS, the Waukee City Council believes the outdoor Fitness Court® is an important
wellness ecosystem that supports healthier communities, commits to funding/fundraising to
participate in NFC’s 2025 Campaign, and will earn local and national recognition as a leader in
providing affordable health and wellness.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this
17th day of June, 2024, that the Waukee City Council will collaborate with NFC to implement
the outdoor Fitness Court® and make fitness free to community residents and visitors.
