AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of a resolution supporting the referendum to
increase membership of the Dallas County Board of Supervisors
FORMAT:Consent Agenda
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: In August, Mayor Clarke on behalf of many of the
cities within Dallas County presented a petition with over 5,000 signatures from across the
County requesting the Dallas County Board of Supervisors to place a ballot measure on the
November 5th election to consider an increase in the number of Dallas County Supervisors from
three to five members. The Dallas County Board of Supervisors have approved the placement of
the measure on the ballot.
If approved by the residents of the county, Dallas County would join both Polk and Warren
Counties within central Iowa with having representation of five Board of Supervisors. If
approved, the seating of two new supervisor seats would not take effect until January 1, 2027
following the November 2026 general election.

STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: The proposed resolution is for City Council support of
the referendum to increase the number of County Supervisors from three
to five. It is anticipated that other communities within Dallas County
will approve a similar resolution over the next several weeks.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution

RESOLUTION 2024-
SUPPORTING THE REFERENDUM TO INCREASE BOARD MEMBERSHIP OF THE
DALLAS COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Dallas County, State of Iowa, is a duly organized Municipal
Organization; AND,
WHEREAS, the Dallas County Board of Supervisors currently consists of three (3) elected
members; AND,
WHEREAS, Dallas County is the fastest growing county in the State of Iowa and is among the
fastest growing counties within the United States; AND,
WHEREAS, following the receipt of a petition of over 5,000 signatures from Dallas County
residents, the County has placed a referendum vote on the November 5, 2024 ballot to increase
the membership of the Dallas County Board of Supervisors to five (5) elected members; AND,
WHEREAS, considering the continuing growth of Dallas County and to provide representation
commensurate with the number of Dallas County residents to be served, the Clive City Council
supports the November 5, 2024, ballot measure to increase the Board membership to five
members.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Waukee that it
supports the November 5, 2024, ballot measure to increase the membership of the Dallas County
Board of Supervisors from three (3) to five (5) members.
Passed by the City Council of the City of Waukee, Iowa, and approved on the 3rd day of
September, 2024.
