AGENDA ITEM: CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA CITY COUNCIL MEETING COMMUNICATION MEETING DATE: November 4, 2024 AGENDA ITEM: Consideration of approval of a resolution approving a site plan for Painted Woods West Park FORMAT: Resolution SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The property is located west of 6th Street and south of Indian Ridge Drive. The property is 8.7-acres in area and was acquired as part of the Painted Woods West development. The proposed park is intended to be a neighborhood park. A Neighborhood Park is typically 5 to 10 acres in area and serves an area up to one-half mile. The plans for Painted Woods West Park identify play structures, trails, two open air shelters, a basketball court, a small parking lot, and one restroom building. FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT: The Planning and Zoning Commission reviewed the site plan request at their meeting on October 22, 2024, and recommended approval: Approval of a Site Plan for Painted Woods West Park (950 Indian Ridge Drive) Melissa DeBoer, Planning Coordinator, introduced the request for approval of a site plan for Painted Woods West Park. The property is located west of 6th Street and south of Indian Ridge Drive. The property is 8.7-acres in area and was acquired as part of the Painted Woods West development. The proposed park is intended to be a neighborhood park, which is typically 5 to 10 acres in area and serves an area up to one-half mile. The plans for Painted Woods West Park identify play structures, trails, two open air shelters, a basketball court, a small parking lot, and one restroom building. Staff recommends approval of the site plan for Painted Woods West Park. Discussion as follows: • General discussion of planned native plantings and trees and ongoing maintenance • Discussion of uses for the planned flex court Motion by Commissioner Broderick for approval of a site plan for Painted Woods West Park, seconded by Commissioner Bankole. Ayes: Broderick, Beenken, Tessau, Lohse and Bankole. Nays: None. Motion carried.
