AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of a resolution approving Amendment No. 2 to
Agreement for Professional Consulting Services with Calhoun-Burns and
Associates [N. Warrior Lane Bridge Over Little Walnut Creek]
FORMAT:Resolution
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: Amendment 2 is necessary to continue into the
preliminary design phase of the project. While the project is still a few years from occurring (currently
programmed in FY2028 in the current FY2026-2030 draft CIP), it’ll take staff and the consultant time
to complete final permitting with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Iowa Department of Natural
Resources, Right-of-Way negotiations and ultimately final design. The original agreement was for not
to exceed amount of $87,000. Amendment 1 was for a not to exceed amount of $65,800. Amendment
2 is for a not to exceed amount of $212,600, bringing the total contract amount to not to exceed
amount of $365,400. Total project cost is currently estimated at $6.324 million. This design services
contract is about 5.8% of that total cost at this point which aligns with industry standards. As a
reminder staff will have final design costs and construction administration costs to add via amendment
3 at a later date as the project progresses to final design.
FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: Amendment 2 is for not-to-
exceed $212,600.00 bringing the total contract amount to $365,400.00.

APPROVING AMENDMENT NO. 2 TO AGREEMENT FOR PROFESSIONAL
CONSULTING SERVICES WITH CALHOUN-BURNS & ASSOCIATES
[N. WARRIOR LANE BRIDGE OVER LITTLE WALNUT CREEK]
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Dallas County, State of Iowa, is a duly organized Municipal
Organization; AND,
WHEREAS, the City entered into an Agreement for Professional Consulting Services with
Calhoun-Burns & Associates on April 4, 2022 (RES #2022-132) for the N. Warrior Lane Bridge
Over Little Walnut Creek Project; AND,
WHEREAS, the City approved Amendment No. 1 for Professional Consulting Services with
Calhoun-Burns & Associates on October 17, 2022 (RES #2022-429) for the N. Warrior Lane
Bridge Over Little Walnut Creek Project; AND,
WHEREAS, the Amendment No. 2 to Agreement for Professional Consulting Services with
Calhoun-Burns & Associates for preliminary design services, final permitting services with the
USACE and IDNR and ROW Acquisition; AND,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Waukee that the
Amendment No. 2 to Agreement for Professional Consulting Services between Calhoun-Burns &
Associates and the City of Waukee, Iowa [N. Warrior Lane Bridge Over Little Walnut Creek] is
hereby approved.
Passed by the City Council of the City of Waukee, Iowa, and approved the 2nd day of December,
2024.
